Nobody has ever truly cultivated it. VOLTA stitched it instead.

Built on the authentic Netherlands black concept jersey — with its extraordinary crinkle jacquard surface, its tonal Amsterdam canal map that appears and disappears as the light moves across the fabric, its orange collar trim and cuff detailing, and the KNVB lion crest in deep orange — this hand-embroidered Netherlands concept jersey carries a tulip composition in burning orange that explodes against the total black of the base like nothing else in the catalogue.

Cascading tulip bouquets sweep from both shoulders toward the centre — each tulip individually hand-stitched in deep orange, amber and burnt sienna thread, the petals rendered with a precision that captures their distinctive cupped shape. The stems are stitched in black on black — visible only up close, disappearing into the fabric from a distance, as if the flowers are floating. Teal leaf accents catch the eye between the orange blooms. Lower on the chest, single tulip stems drift independently, scattered like a field seen from above.

The 'Black Tulip' story

In 17th-century Amsterdam, at the height of Tulpenwoede — the tulip mania that made the Netherlands the centre of the world's most extraordinary financial and horticultural obsession — a black tulip was the holy grail. Botanists spent lifetimes trying to breed one. Fortunes were wagered on the possibility of its existence. Alexandre Dumas wrote an entire novel about the quest to find it.
